For many, their last memory of Ed Stanley was at the 2009 Dresden Exhibition. He died last October.

The new Ed Stanley Building has been erected to honour him and the mentor he was to the many 4 H members. Ed was also a past Director and was a current Vice-President of the Agricultural Society at the time of his death.

The building will be used for meetings, as an Information Centre for the 4H as well as Rest Centre for those youths who need a break while at the fairgrounds. A shower will be installed which will allow those who sleepover on the grounds the opportunity to "freshen up" before big fair events.

The official dedication of the building and memorial rock will take place at a later date. A small private presentation and unveiling of the dedication rock was held for family and 4H members on Saturday during this year's Dresden Exhibition.

The "Rock" was unveiled by granddaughter Dana Dalton, her husband Greg and Ed's great granddaughter Presley.

Ed's wife Mary as well as his children, several grandchildren, and 4H members looked on.

Brad Wardell, President of the Agricultural Society and Alicia VanEsse 4H Mentor recalled the hard-working man.

Alicia broke down as she spoke especially to his wife Mary for giving up her husband for 4H. She spoke about the big void in her heart and at the fairgrounds this year caused by his passing and how much he is missed.

The Daltons, who are known in the area for Dalton's Landscaping and who did the landscaping at the site spoke of the many volunteers especially from the Agricultural Society, the Rotary Club (who has helped with the funding) and Union Gas who put in countless hours on the project. Approximately 15 volunteers have come out from the Dawn Compression Plant to work long hours to help get the project almost ready.

Ed did leave a legacy of 4H success stories behind. In memory of the man who liked to raise garlic, there is also a black farmer silhouette which has been erected near the rock to remind those who miss him that he really isn't very far away.
